Lecithin Weight Loss-What is the Link between Lecithin and Weight Loss?
How does lecithin and weight loss relate? How does lecithin help you lose weight or body Fat?
In the year 1999, the Food and Drug Administration allowed companies to claim that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that also contain soy “may reduce the risk of heart disease.” The claim was based on early research showing that soy protein lowered levels of harmful LDL cholesterol.
Successful researches have indicated that lecithin successfully increased HDL cholesterol and lowered LDL cholesterol in both human and animal subjects. The mechanism of action by which lecithin exerts this effect is in debate. Some research indicate that this effect of lecithin is likely to be due to its polyunsaturated fat content. O the other hand, different researches point out that lecithin’s cholesterol-lowering effect is independent of polyunsaturated content. In this regard, lecithin may have value to help modify cholesterol levels.
It is in the minds of people that lecithin’s capacity to emulsify fats means that it can enter the body’ fat cells (i.e., adipose tissue), and breakdown the fat therein. However, this is not the case. Lecithin has no ability to enter the fat cells. Lecithin may, on the contrary be used as part of a weight loss program by way of a different mechanism. Specifically, lecithin may assist in the breakdown of both dietary and blood fats into smaller molecules. This is beneficial since the end result is to break dietary and blood fats into fatty acids. When this takes pace, it is more likely that the body will use the fatty acids as an energy fuel rather than store the fats in adipose tissue.
How to use Lecithin for Weight & Fat Loss + Dosage
Lecithin is composed of vitamin B complex as well as choline, inositol and phosphoric acid with some linolenic acid. The relationship to weight loss comes about because of the fact that this product has high amounts of choline, which helps metabolize fats very effectively. Lecithin is also composed of highly polyunsaturated fat which in most cases alters the lipid profile so that it reduces levels of harmful low density lipoprotein cholesterol. In return, it increases the amount of good cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol.
Apart from that, lecithin is a tool for heart health and by so being, it works to reverse and prevent damages that come from coronary artery disease. This eventually prevents cholesterol and other fats from sticking to the surfaces of blood vessels. The lubrication provided by lecithin provides a slippery lining on which it is very hard for large fat deposits to adhere. The moment large fat deposits cannot adhere to surfaces, they are transported to the liver where they are broken down and converted to energy.
In addition, improved circulation provided by lecithin supplementation helps to hinder blood clots and maintain the health of liver through which excess fats and energy providing substances will pass. It also repairs the parts of damaged liver and in essence, this improves the process of fat break down in the long run.
What is the dosage?
- Lecithin supplements are sold in a wide range of doses. There are capsules at 200, 500, and even 1,200 mg each. The most popular of these is the 1,200 mg capsules of Soy Lecithin. There are even a few powder formulations available which are typically cheaper and allow you to determine the appropriate dosage level for yourself.
- Daily dosage ranges can be anywhere from 200 mg up to 4,800 mg depending on your dietary habits and choline needs. Studies of lecithin in cognitive impairment have used a wide variety of doses, from 1 to 35 g daily. A systematic review has been published.
